Beef and Broccoli Stir-fry

Beef and Broccoli Stir-fry

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb beef sirloin or flank steak, thinly sliced
  • 3 cups broccoli florets
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water (for cornstarch slurry)
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup beef broth (or water)
  • Cooked white rice (for serving)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Beef: In a bowl, toss the thinly sliced beef with 1 tablespoon of soy sauce and set aside to marinate for 10-15 minutes.
  2. Blanch the Broccoli: Bring a pot of water to a boil, add the broccoli florets, and cook for 2 minutes until bright green and tender-crisp. Drain and set aside.
  3. Make the Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the remaining 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, oyster sauce, beef broth, sesame oil, brown sugar, and cornstarch mixed with water (slurry).
  4. Stir-fry the Beef: Heat a large skillet or wok over high heat. Add 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil and stir-fry the beef in batches for 2-3 minutes until browned and cooked through. Remove from the pan and set aside.
  5. Sauté Garlic and Ginger: In the same skillet, add another tablespoon of vegetable oil. Add the minced garlic and ginger, and sauté for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  6. Add Sauce and Broccoli: Pour the sauce into the skillet and bring it to a simmer. Add the blanched broccoli and stir to coat with the sauce.
  7. Combine Beef and Broccoli: Add the cooked beef back into the skillet and toss everything together until the beef and broccoli are evenly coated with the sauce and heated through, about 1-2 minutes.
  8. Serve: Remove from heat and serve the beef and broccoli stir-fry over steamed white rice. Enjoy!

Notes:

For extra flavor, you can add red pepper flakes or chili oil for a spicy kick. Substitute chicken or tofu for beef if desired.
